Admissions

Admissions

Brambles Pre-School serves the community of Brampton, and offers a minimum of 24 part-time places, throughout the day, for children aged 3 – 4. The Governors of Brampton Village Primary School are the managing body for the Pre-School and are responsible for admissions. Children may join Brambles in their pre-school year i.e. children who are 3 years old on the first day of the academic year and who will be applying to join the Reception class in the following September.

Applying for a place

All applicants should in the first instance complete an expression of interest form.  This will be used as the basis for the Preschool Leader to write to the parents of our potential intake to establish how many hours and on what days they would like to apply for a place from the following September.  The deadline for replying to this request for the 2020/21 academic year is 24th April 2020.  Any replies, or new requests received after this date will be treated as late applications.

How places will be allocated

If the number of applications received is equal to or less than the number of places available, then all applicants will be offered a place.

If the school receives more applications for children to join the Pre-School than it has places available, then places will be allocated according to the following criteria:

  1. Children who will be 3 years old on or before 1st September in each academic year, who live in Brampton and have a sibling at Brampton Village Primary School, requesting 10 or more hours per week
  2. Children who will be 3 years old on or before 1st September in each academic year and who live in Brampton, requesting 10 or more hours per week
  3. Children who will be 3 years old on or before 1st September in each academic year, living outside Brampton, but who have a sibling at Brampton Village Primary School, requesting 10 or more hours per week
  4. Children who will be 3 years old on or before 1st September in each academic year, who live in Brampton and have a sibling at Brampton Village Primary School, requesting less than 10 hours per week
  5. Children who will be 3 years old on or before 1st September in each academic year and who live in Brampton, requesting less than 10 hours per week
  6. Children who will be 3 years old on or before 1st September in each academic year, living outside Brampton, but who have a sibling at Brampton Village Primary School, requesting less than 10 hours per week
  7. Children who will be 3 years old on or before 1st September in each academic year who live outside Brampton, but nearest the school as measured by a straight line, requesting 10 or more hours per week
  8. Children who will be 3 years old on or before 1st September in each academic year who live outside Brampton, but nearest the school as measured by a straight line, requesting less than 10  hours per week

A letter making the offer of a place for September 2020 will be made 8th May 2020.  At this stage parents will be expected to formally accept the offer and return paperwork to the preschool within two weeks, i.e. by 22 May 2020.  Should the place not be accepted in writing by the parent(s) by this date, then the place may be offered to another applicant.

Please note that, whilst the governors of Brampton Village Primary School are the admissions authority for Brambles Pre-school, Cambridgeshire County Council is the admissions authority for the primary school. The Governors reserve the right to withdraw or withhold places and also refuse admission in exceptional circumstances as they are responsible for the efficient use of resources and education of all children who attend.

If your child attends Brambles Pre-School, this does not mean that your child will automatically secure a place at Brampton Village Primary School. You will still have to apply for a place before the published deadline during the January before your child starts school.
