Family Worker

At Brampton Village Primary School, we understand that a child’s wellbeing, outcomes and success at school are closely linked to their home life. To support this, we have a dedicated Family Worker on hand to support pupils and their families throughout their time with us bridging the gap between home and school.

Our Family Worker, Mrs Claire Shears, is here to help strengthen the connection between school and home, working with parents, carers, and children to ensure everyone feels supported and understood. The role focuses on building positive relationships, providing early support and advice, and signposting to additional, external services when needed.

Our Family Worker can be the first point of contact and can offer:

  • Support with school attendance and routines working with families to identify barriers to attendance.

  • Support and advice with identifying, supporting and working with our Young Carers

  • Advice on parenting strategies (including sleep, toileting) and behaviour management

  • Emotional and practical support for a family during challenging times

  • Help accessing local services (housing, mental health, financial, relevant charities, etc.)

  • Liaison between home and school for pupils with additional needs in conjunction with the school’s SENDCo

  • Advice regarding emotional well-being for all the family

  • A confidential, non-judgemental, welcoming ear respecting your family’s privacy at a time when your family needs it

  • Signposting support to relevant services and making referrals to external agencies.

Mrs Shears is also a member of our Safeguarding Team and is one of our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads. Within this role she will communicate with and attend relevant meetings with, external agencies, when necessary, such as Early Help Team and Social Care.
